Last week, Summit Forests had the pleasure of hosting a workshop on the risk management process for our contractors in the Gisborne region. Led by our health and safety manager, Chayne Zinsli, this event was designed to help our contractors understand and make the most of the risk management process they use for managing the day-to-day workplace risks.
Key takeaways from the workshop:
- A risk matrix is only a model to help translate consequence and likelihood to risk. It is not perfect or absolute and the focus must be on managing those hazards and risks that seriously hurt someone.
- Having a plan for the work being done and how to manage the associated hazards and risks is key to a safe operation. Our operations are not static and the hazards and risks change over time. Regular toolbox meetings are a key step in the risk management process to identify, plan for, and communicate change.
Summit believes that investing in our contractors’ understanding of risk management is crucial for maintaining a safe and productive work environment. Building on this understanding and developing a deeper awareness through such workshops will contribute to safe places of work.
A big thank you to Chayne Zinsli for leading the session and to all participants for their engagement and commitment to improving our workplace safety.
