Summit Forests contracts a mix of cable and ground-based harvesting crews for our forest harvesting operations around NZ. To carry this out, we develop on-going partnerships with reliable and trusted local contractors, helping them build their own successful businesses, which in turn contributes to their community and local economy.
Our day-to-day forestry operations include harvesting, road construction and maintenance, and cartage across a number of forests with forecast volumes to increase to over 1.1 million tonnes in 2024.
Summit schedules and deploys the appropriate harvesting configurations with competent harvesting crews to ensure we can harvest our forest in the most effective and efficient manner while protecting our people and the environment. Ensuring the right harvesting equipment is employed for each job – without over or under capitalising the equipment deployed – is critical to cost control in forest harvesting.
Harvest planning is undertaken in consultation with harvesting contractors to review and determine the most effective harvest system combinations.
